THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE TATIS!!!!

THE GOOD

THE METSIES WIN!!!

And, more importantly, the Metsies win a game coming from behind TWICE in the late innings, with heroics from some of the unsung players, Endy and Tatis!!!

Luis Castillo with a very nice night... 2-5 with a homer, 2 ribbies..

Reyes with a nice night... 2-5 plus a walk.. 2 runs scored... 16th stolen base of the year...

And now for the most important piece... Other than one bad pitch (lucky swing) by Duaner, the bullpen was DOMINANT last night...

Perfect inning for Schoeneweis, who by the way, now has an ERA of 1.35!!! His Opponents are hitting under .200 against him and his WHIP is 0.90, which are GREAT numbers!!!

2 perfect innings for Heilman in a VERY tight spot, pitching the 8th and 9th innings of a 1-run game... GREAT bounceback game... Like him or not, make fun of him or not, Aaron has been one of the better relievers in the game over the past few years, and we could REALLY use him pitching like we all know he can...

In all Mets pitchers struck out 16 Marlins batters last night...

THE BAD

Another poor outing overall by Ollie Perez... 6 innings and 5 earned runs, including 3 homers... Not getting it done... Again, somebody should remind this dude that he's costing himself MILLIONS of dollars with starts like this!!!

THE TATIS!!!

Okay, seriously... Who the hell saw THAT coming??? And, overall, just a really nice sign that the Mets are now starting to get some production from their bench players...

Easley with a couple of hits last night...

Tatis with just the one hit, but what a hit it was!!! Not to mention that, at least so far, he's hitting .368 for us! And apparently can play a little RF too (okay, well that may be a stretch!!!)

Overall, maybe the best win of the season for the Mets, and the kind of games we were winning pretty regularly back in 2006... MAYBE a good sign of things to come for us???

LET'S GO METS!!!

Dude, I could not agree more with the Let's Go Mets! LET'S GO METS!

For the first time in a long time, I am excited about the team, I'm looking forward to a GOOD, hard played hard nosed game of baseball, and I even (gulp) am feeling a little better about Willie. Is it me, or has the whole Mets shebang, right on up to Willie, seemed less tense, less pressurized, and just more relaxed and confident?

Ya know, even during the game last night, when we were in extra innings, I just felt like even IF we lost that game, that I was just really impressed overall with how the team looked, the effort they gave, and the energy that showed...

I'm not sure I've seen Willie smile as much as he did last night in quite a long time...

Somebody sent me one of those chain thingies via email this morning (which I forwarded to you and Coop, btw) about things they've learned, and one of those is that the cheapest way to improve your looks is to SMILE.

Well, Willie's looks have certainly been improving over the last few days.

Who knows, ding dong, perhaps last week's implosion will lead to this week's explosion.... explosion of the Mets, their talent, their heart, their desire...

I know, it almost sounds like a cliche, but each time they fell behind, I just knew, they would not lose. I knew as soon as Beltran and Wright were on base, they would come home. I was just glad that Amezaga's celebration came back to haunt him! Fry those Fish! And let's break out our swiffers for the Dodgers series! Yee ha!

Honestly, you guys, I haven't felt this optimistic since the John Maine Game #161 last year...lol.

I just feel that the tide has changed, and the Mets are riding it.

They just look and feel totally different, to me, at least.

I can't WAIT to watch the game tonight! I might even cancel my pedicure, since I really don't want to miss even the pre-game show! Sick, huh? lol

I LOVE the enthusiasm here... I love that Shea seemed to be rockin' late into the night last night... The guys are having fun, and that just makes everything so much easier...

Baseball is really a sport where the harder you try, the more you press, the more likely you are to fail... Just go out, be relaxed, calm, confident, and good things usually happen (assuming you actually have the basic talent to begin with, which the Mets clearly do)...

Last night felt like 2006 all over again... The feeling that this team would find a way... Getting the big hits from the unexpected guys.... In '06 it was guys like Endy, Valentin, etc... Last night, it was Endy again, with Tatis coming through in the end...

Just a GREAT feeling last night...

Definitely a nice first day in this world for my new niece!!!

YOUR NEW NIECE????????? ANOTHER NEW NIECE????????

Feel free to post her pic as a widget item on the blog, along with her name, dob and other identifiers! :)

Congratulations, dingy!

Date of birth was yesterday...

As far as I know, still no name...

Am heading up to the hospital this afternoon to see her for the first time!!!

Deb said...

Well, I want a pic and other pertinent info posted tomorrow, dingy! :)

Yes Dingbat pics please! My friend from BMF land, Blondies Jake, and his wife (Mrs Blondies Jake LOL) are expecting their first this fall, and they attended their last @ Shea game last night. We thought if Ollie came through the names should be Oliver for a boy, Olivia for a girl! Now maybe it should be Fernando for a boy, Fernandina (!) for a girl!

DINGOMETS said...

I'll see what I can do about that!!! :)

DINGOMETS said...

I have no say over the name...

I'm not even sure my brother has any say over the name, but something tells me it won't be Olivia.

I've recommended either Laverne or Shirley, but I just get weird looks when I say that!!!

Deb said...

How about a nice combo of the two, something like LaShirl, give her a nice, uh, ethnic connotation...lol.

Delgado benching had something to do with this, there was a power play going on in that clubhouse and Willie won in Mondays meeting. Delgado's benching, Wiliies guys in Easley & Tatis.. The energy was in the air you can feel it...

DINGOMETS said...

I prefer Shaverne!!!

DINGOMETS said...

Agreed Ed...

And, even listening to Willie's comments about Delgado, he did NOT sound optimistic about his long-term playing time...

Kinda like "well, we'll give Carlos a few days to clear his head, and then we'll see where he goes from there"...

As opposed to "Carlos is one of 'my guys', and I know he'll bounce back and put up great numbers for us"...

Again, I don't think enough gets made of the influence that Tony Bernazard, in particular, has among the Latino players in the clubhouse, and the fact that those players have easy access to him to vent about things that they SHOULD be going to Willie about...

Deb said...

Shaverne it is, ding dong! Now, all you gotta do is convince your bro of that, lol.

Anyway, Ed, I mentioned yesterday in a comment I posted somewhere, maybe even here (I'm at that age, you know, lol) that I wondered how much of an effect the Delgado benching had on the win, and whether or not the benching would continue. I now believe as you do, that it was a nice discreetly quietly done power play, and you could actually feel the shift occurring. I believe that some players were just waiting for it to happen; I know I was.

Now the trick is to keep it up. Once you regain control, you have to keep it, and that might not be as easy as we think. However, I think Willie has support from some of the key Mets players, and if they think that Willie is behind them and willing to take on the mantle of leadership, who knows how far we can go?

you know, something i am surprised that most of you have not touched on this - but when Mainer was sent to pinch run for Delgado in the 9th (10th?), Maine went to give him a high five or slap on the butt or whatever and Delgado it appeared was p*ssy. Not to mention, he was conspicuously OFF the field during the walk off celebration. I'm sorry for a guy perceived as a "leader" (benched or whatever), his fat a$$ should have been out there jumping around! He's slowly working his way to making BPOTM - also it's my perception that Bernazard and Delgado, no love there. Willie has always gone to bat for Delgado, I doubt it has to do with Delgado's comments to the media about Wills' job security but let's just say - Willie knows a turd when he sees / smells it. And that turd is Delgottago.

I saw it, Coop, and just like I did not make a big deal out of Willie leaving Ollie out there to fail in the sixth inning, with absolutely nobody warming up, I didn't bring it up because I didn't want to stress the bad, but emphasize the good today.

There's plenty of time for us to get on some of the questionable things we see, but so far this year, there hasn't been a good reason to ride the wave... so I'm riding it. At least for now, lol.

DINGOMETS said...

Oh yeah... Delgado seemed PISSED off that Willie yanked him for a pinch runner...

GOOD FOR WILLIE!!!

I get the feeling, more and more, that Delgado really just doesn't give a crap anymore, and is just cashing his paychecks...

In that case, fine... Give him his one lump paycheck to cover the rest of the season, and get his ass outta here!!!

Deb said...

Nice thought, Dingy, but I just don't think that's going to happen.

Ideally, Willie can win the Battle of the Clubhouse (I will be doing a post on this shortly) without alienating CD, but either way, Willie can and must win the battle if this team has any chance this year.

DINGOMETS said...

I don't know...

A few weeks ago, I'd have thought it unlikely that they'd just release Delcrappo, but the more he continues to suck, and more importantly sulk about things, the better chance I see of it happening...

Deb said...

I just don't see it happening, for one main reason -- money.

However, if I were Delgado, I wouldn't push it right now; perhaps if I were a SMART Delgado, I would go along with Willie on this one, throw my hat into Willy World, and see what happens. Hell, it's the only thing he can really do if the team continues on the path it's started.

DINGOMETS said...

I think the Wilpons like understand the concept of a sunk cost...

We pay Delgado no matter what... We pay him if he plays, and continues to suck... We pay him if he's riding the bench... We pay him if we release him and let him go sit on the beach all day...

The money should NOT be the determining factor in whether to keep him or release him...

Deb said...

But it will be, imo, ding dong, unless things drastically change.

I'm still betting on Delgado getting on board the Willie Train! :)

DINGOMETS said...

Yeah, well he makes a fine caboose!!!

Also, keep in mind that as the season moves on, it's really less $$$ we're talking about them having to eat here...

And interestingly, in at least a few articles I've seen this morning, it seems that Willie is just as concerned, if not more so, with Deglado's shitty defense than with his lack of production at the plate...

Deb said...

The term "less money" is very relative when one is talking about the kind of money they have to pay Delgado, dingy, lol.

But Bill R. won't tolerate Delgado, and if he firmly entrenches himself as Mets manager, well.... anything could happen! *wink*
