THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE DAMN WE SUCK!!!!

This one's gonna hurt!!!

THE GOOD

Well, ya got me... Reyes hit 2 homers yesterday, so I guess that's good... Of course, this probably means he'll start trying to hit homers now, and instead keep hitting a bunch of weak popups...

Aaron Heilman with 2 pretty good innings yesterday.

THE BAD

I think it's time somebody remind young Mr. Pelfrey that he's SUPPOSED to be improving, not getting worse!!! That's 2 straight games now where he only lasted 4 innings... A far cry from the gem he threw in Washington a couple of weeks ago, which of course we lost 1-0... That's not 6 straights starts for Pelfrey where he's gotten the loss...

Reyes with another bad error... Whether it's fielding errors or getting picked off, Jose has developed a REALLY bad case of HUHA (Head Up His ASS) syndrome...

Sorry to do this to the kid, but Nick Evans with a rough day yesterday, going 0-4 with 2 Ks, and leaving a small army on base...

Delgado SUCKS... Comes up with the bases juiced and hits a weak fly out, and only Castillo's speed and Luis Gonzalez' noodle arm allowed a run to score... Comes up in the 5th with runners on 1st and 2nd, and manages a weak popup to 1st base....

THE DAMN WE SUCK

Maybe somebody can explain to us here how Willie Randolph is still employed?

We're now 1/3 of the way through the season (more or less)... And, we're 10th in the NL in runs scored, and just 7th (not great) in team ERA...

Some changes NEED to be made, and fast... Otherwise, we'll have another September of non-meaningless games!!! Instead of making those changes, the Wilpons have buried there head in the sand and pretend that everything is okay...

Excellent posting, ding dong... excellent.

I have some thoughts on the current state of the Mets, and what can realistically be done about it, which I'm going to let ruminate in my head for awhile before I post them.

But change does in fact need to be made, and soon.

Oh, and last September's games were meaningful -- just a BAD meaningful, lol.

Thanks...

And believe me, I am under no illusion that changing managers right now would have a major impact, and certainly, Omar's seat should be even hotter than it was at the end of last year...

However, since I still do believe that the overall talent level of this team SHOULD be more than just a .500 record, I do hold Willie responsible for much of what is going on with the club lately...

So, while I wasn't going NUTS that they didn't fire him after the collapse, I did promise that I'd be calling for his job by Memorial Day if there was no improvement...

And well, Memorial Day has come and gone, the team is still playing like crap, and Willie is still employed...

That doesn't make for a happy Dingo!!!

Nor a happy Deb, either, ding dong.

I was listening to Brian Schneider in his usual Tuesday weekly spot with Joe & Evan on WFAN this morning. Schneider continues to insist there aren't problems in the clubhouse, and to his way of thinking it, I'm sure that's true. But I submit the problems are of a different nature than your run-of-the-mill guys not getting along with each other and disliking each other and stuff, which imo are vastly overrated as a cause for poor play.

I believe that Brian may have wittingly or unwittingly been somewhat disingeuous about the problems in the clubhouse, because they are very real.

Oh, sure, I'm certain the clubhouse atmosphere is just fine and dandy. After all, these guys don't seem to care if they win or lose. And because nobody, not Willie, not Omar, not the Wilpons... NOBODY (except for poor David Wright and Billy Wagner, who seem to have the influence of an ant on a skyscraper) is calling them out on it. They now seem to have figured out that all they have to do is say "gee, we have to play better, it's our fault," and then continue to do what they're doing. As if the statement that they have to play better was in itself the balm for the gaping wound.

And the hand wringing Wilpons just seem to have no clue.

Before all of this is said and done, ding dong, lots of heads are going to roll, and there are going to be lots of unhappy people who find themselves in positions they never thought, a few weeks ago, they'd be in.

I don't expect all the guys to get along... Frankly, it's unrealistic to think they will... Like any large group, team, family, etc..., there will be certain guys who just don't like each other...

Even David managed to kind of annoy me yesterday with his comments about there being a chain of command and seperation of powers, which is a nice way of him saying that he's glad he doesn't have to make the decision...

Reading between the lines, however, it does seem that David wouldn't be upset one way or the other... The only guys I've really heard support Willie were Wagner and Delgado, and Delgado needs to shut his fricken' mouth and play like he cares about Willie keeping his job...

I think a message NEEDED to be sent, and it needed to be a loud and clear message that the performance of the team over the last year will NOT be tolerated...

By keeping Willie at this point, Omar and the Wilpons have done just the opposite, and basically sent the message that all is well...

Yepper, pepper.

And the guys seem to have figured out how to continually keep afloat with a minimum of effort, thus ensuring their happiness in the clubhouse and with each other.

*Sigh*

What a beautiful story, huh? I'm beginning to believe that as fans, we must do two things: (1) continually call the Mets out on this disgraceful mess the team has become; and (2) start boycotting games, merchandise, etc. Which will happen in the long run, of course, if they don't turn this around, but we can't really wait that long, now, can we?

This team has to be publicly embarrassed and hit in the pocketbook. Those are the only real weapons we have, and we must wield them with strength and conviction.

Hey, btw, did you see that Mets Geek changed its name to Rays Geek, because the Mets suck so bad? LOL I'm thinking if this keeps up, we're going to change the name of this here blog to The Bad, The Ugly and The Downright Sucky Mets, or even better yet, The Damn We Suck Mets, courtesy of your latest GBU post, lol.

Well, I'm at least one fan that certainly has lost some of my desire to head out to Shea and spend my money... I'll still get to some games this year, but not as many as I'd have planned on coming into the season...

I don't really mind bad teams, but I hate watching a bad team that is severely underperforming, and not looking like the give a rat's ass about it...

Overlooked is that Reyes' two homers really only wiped out the two unearned runs his error produced. Much like Castillo's gaffe in his last start, Pelfrey is being forced to throw more pitches when he is already struggling to find his way throught the second time around the lineup. His stuff is not there, granted, but in both of those games if the third out is recorded when it should have been things could have been remarkably different for all involved.

Correct Tim...

Though, one thing I heard Willie talk about yesterday, and I agree 100% with him, is that alot of Mets pitchers, and Pelfrey in particular, seem to really run into alot of trouble with 2 outs...

SO many times so far this year, a Mets pitcher has gotten the first 2 outs easily, only to find a string of 2 out hits, and suddenly a couple of runs cross the plate...

That, along with our pitchers seeming to really struggle against other teams' 7-8-9 hitters has REALLY been a major factor in some of our losses so far this year...

Maybe it's a lack of focus, concentration or "killer instinct", but it's something that certainly Willie has noticed, and hopefully kicking the guys in the ass a bit for...
