Neither An Orange Jacket Nor An Ollie Be.....

... and homage to Willie The Shake, a/k/a "Bill S.," none other than the wise and lovely William Shakespeare, for providing the original line for that there ripoff in the title of this entry.

Anyway, I guess the Power of the Orange Jacket wore off. And the return of the Ollie Demon blew in with the San Francisco winds. And, folks, blaming the late night Sunday ESPN game, the semi-red-eye-flight out to San Francisco and the lack of proper sleep would be wrong, since Ollie flew out to San Francisco early in preparation for his start yesterday, if that's what you can call that mess of a pitching performance he gave last night.

Looks as if Willie... er, I mean, Bill R.'s dislike for Ollie might be justified, at least, at this point.

If I were Ollie and Scott Boras, I'd be a little worried right now. Here you got a guy who's going into free agency, looking for a nice fat reward in the form of a multi-year multi-million-dollar contract, and he's pitching as if... well, as if the only reward he's looking for is a stint in Taiwanese or Japanese baseball, or perhaps a trip to NOLA where he can frolic in the debauchery of the French Quarter.

As for the Mets and Ollie, I'm starting to think that if Pedro can make a solid return to the rotation, we might just see an expendable Ollie, with a trade including Ollie and maybe one or two other Heilm.... I mean, one or two other guys on the horizon.

And Oliver Hardy Perez and his buddy, Scott Laurel Boras, might just be good for a few laughs.

I'm glad there was hockey on last night, because I had no desire to watch that crap!!!

Ollie is literally costing himself MILLIONS of dollars with each crappy start like this, and last night was his worst ever... Just an utter joke, against a lousy offense, and NO excuses!!!

I'd trade him, but with his shitty performance and pending Free Agency, don't really think we'd get much of anything in return...

Maybe a nice Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich???

I don't know, ding dong... I think we could do pretty well if we packaged him properly. With the way pitching is these days, some might feel based upon last year that Ollie is still a work in progress, which is why I think trading him probably makes the most sense for us. Lots of folks still have Ollie memories of late 2006 and 2007, and it might be time to pull the plug before folks start having Ollie memories of 2008, lol.

Well, I called it in pre-season - Oh Pea was odd man out. And with his behavior in arb, the big semi-justified pay day (read: not really justified), and his head-caseness, I agree with Deb - starting pitching at a premium and Ollie when he's on is one of the best, we can easily package him in a trade for someone / something else. Just what I'm not sure. But I know hes not going to do much with the Mets. Even his implosions in 2007 were not like the ones has his now. Holy moly - can't get out of an inning, let alone the first? Send him packin

At this stage of his career, Ollie ought not to be losing it the way he did last night; honestly, it's inexcusable. He really hasn't pitched well more than a handful of times this year, he looks lost, and if a guy who's looking for a big payday (see: Andruw Jones) can't manage to put together a half-decent year (which we all know is all it takes these days for a big fatass payday), well... I'd be very reluctant, if I were most teams, to make that kind of investment.

Right now, the bloom is still not totally off the Ollie rose, so if I were Omar, I'd get my ass on that phone, and start callin'!

Yeah, but still, you're talking about an inconsistent pitcher who will likely walk at the end of the year...

Maybe a couple of prospects, but I don't even imagine we'd get TOP prospects in return for him...

Interesting how last year we were all praising Omar for this trade, and right now, I'd be more than willing to trade Perez straight up for Nady!!!

Perez for Nady straight up... dream on, my dear, dream on!

Like I said, he would have to be packaged properly, and some other things would have to fall into place.

I'm thinking more and more that much like they say in the Green Acres theme song, New York isn't the place for Oliver Wendell Perez..lol.

The annoying part is that he has shown he can be pretty consistent and effective over a long season, even in New York... He's shown he CAN handle the pressure of pitching in big games...

He just has a $0.02 head, and can't seem to focus himself...

Maybe just get him an extra strength dose of ritalin or something...

Deb said...

Perhaps he is focused on the future, and not on the present, ding dong; that might account for his $0.02 head, lol. He's too busy thinking about his potential $50 mil contract, and with that $0.02 head, well..... fantasizing about it might be all he gets, lol.

Another Prisoner of Boras, lol!

DINGOMETS said...

Bullshit.. He's a prisoner of himself... He's the one going out there and sucking, not Boras...

Deb said...

Easy, ding dong, easy, there...lol. He's in a prison without any walls, a prisoner of his own device, a prisoner of the gestapo tactics of Boras. When guys sign with him, they essentially give up their rights to do anything but what Boras wants them to do.

That's what I meant. Some guys handle the Boras Touch well, some don't, and I suspect Ollie is in the some don't camp. He doesn't need the distraction, considering his already fragile mental makeup, and I think this whole situation is not serving him well. Sure, he put himself there, but he's a kid, fcol, and may think he knows what's best for him, but I suspect this situation is harder on him than he suspected it would be.

I'm not shedding any tears for him, believe me, I'm just speculating on what might be wrong with him, is all. *wink*

Sorry, I don't buy that... You make it seem like Boras holds this mystical power over his clients!!!

In FACT, Boras works FOR the client, not the other way around!!!

I do not blame Boras for getting his clients the most money... I blame the teams, like the Giants for giving Zito that insane contract...

And sorry, I don't blame an agent when the player sucks noodles... That's HIS fault, not Boras'...

And frankly, if Perez can't even handle the pressure of being a Scott Boras client, well then, that's just further evidence of his $0.02 head!!!

Boras is a horse of different color, ding dong. It's been well documented that basically, he runs you once he signs you.

But he may be faced with the very real possibility that he might have to "shine shit," if Ollie keeps this up. And as The Botch always told me, you simply can't shine shit, no matter how hard you try, lol.

And I'm not blaming Boras, I'm blaming Ollie. I was just trying to speculate on what might be going on inside Ollie's head. I think the pressure of performing for the big contract might be a little hard for him to handle; he may not be ready for it.
